AMEC North Runway - Aircraft Arresting System (BAK-12), AAFB - Guam
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project “AMEC North Runway – Aircraft Arresting System (BAK-12)” located at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam was a complete replacement of the existing Aircraft Arresting System on the newly rebuilt North Runway. The arresting system is similar to that used on aircraft carriers to stop planes upon landing; for the north runway the arresting gear is only to be used to stop a plane in an emergency. On this project, Black Construction acted as the prime subcontractor to AMEC Earth and Environmental.
The work scope included the demolition of the existing system including all structures, equipment, foundations, beams, and asphalt. Site work included clearing, grubbing, grading, site access roads, and landscaping. We provided site electrical utility service from an existing 13.8kV switch to the newly constructed buildings. The main element of the project was the construction of two complete aircraft arresting systems including foundations, buildings and electrical service for four energy absorbers, four fairlead tubes and foundations, four fairlead beam foundations, four frangible prefabricated metal buildings. It also included the installation of the government supplied energy absorbers and other specialty equipment.
